Easing the loneliness of our pandemic, one conversation at a time.

Our Research Process

What's the problem?

In light of the quarantine, many elderly as well as younger people are living on their own and don’t have people to talk to, which increases the feelings of isolation. This oftentimes leads to depression and anxiety. There are many that feel alone during this unprecedented time and simply need a little company to help them get through the day.

What's our solution?

This is an opportunity to reach out to seniors and others who are living on their own to feel a connection - even through a phone call or a Zoom chat. We are students who are activated during this time and want to ensure that we can spread our energy to those who need it. Through this project, we can offer conversations, stories, and just someone to talk to those who feel alone.

Current efforts?

  • Although some professionals offer help and hotlines for the seniors to call, they are often provided through large organizations such as AARP, which can be intimidating to the elderly.

  • As such, the elderly lack the opportunities to retain connections that younger people do. With Six Feet Support, people who feel isolated can reach out to younger students who are welcoming and there for an engaging conversation.

  • Many seniors as well as teens who are at risk can easily feel isolated and disconnected to life around them. We want them to know that we are here for them and are available to talk to anytime.

  • By giving them the opportunity to connect with us, we hope that they will feel less alone during this time of social distancing.

What's our strategy?

What's our vision?

  • We will utilize the deep connection into the community that Six Feet Supplies has already created.

  • We will build a team who is willing to be part of our Conversation Team. We should hold a training so that we do “practice calls”, making sure that each team member is prepared.

  • We will utilize social media platforms to spread the word.

At a glance

Ever since I was young, I grew up constantly being surrounded by friends and family. During this pandemic, it is hard to see those friends and family members. Making sure to check in on people is ideal during this time. It is important to me that seniors as well as many others dealing with isolation aren’t feeling alone and scared during this time. I created this project to reach out to people living on their own or even in assisted living care (like seniors) that want to talk about anything, with teens that care about them.
